CP Guide for Newbies

Are you new to Club Penguin? Want to know a little bit of information? I can tell you a whole lot of CP crud right here in Bman's super long CP Guide for Newbies! Let's give you the basic information.

THE BASICS

How did Club Penguin start?

That answer is simple. It started when Lane Merrifield and his buddy Lance Priebe wanted to make a safe chat place for kids. In 2000, Lance made "Penguin Chat", a basic chat room that involved characters of Penguins. This was only a test game, in which not shortly after the shutdown of Pengchat in 2002 or 03, Lance made "Penguin Chat 3". Yeah no 2, just 3. This would be the final installment of Penguin Chat which launched off Club Penguin's development in 2003. In late 2004, early 2005, Merrifield and Priebe created beta servers for kids to help the development of Club Penguin by reporting bugs. On October 24th, 2005, Club Penguin officially launched with a Beta Test Party, in which they gave out a Pink and Yellow party hat, known as the Beta Hat. This hat is extremely rare, becuase so many of the beta testers who were probably 9 or 10 at the time are now 15 or 16, and have grown old for such childish games. Anyway, that's how Club Penguin began. In 2007, Disney bought Club Penguin for millions of bucks.

Wait, What's a Party?

A Party is when penguins gather to the island to celebrate something, whether it be related to a holiday or just made up stuff. Almost every room in Club Penguin is decorated for the party, and at least 1 free item is available for Members and Non-Members at each party. Parties are often done every month, at least once. Some months do two parties.

Wow, What's a Member?

A Member is a paid subscriber to Club Penguin. You see, Members pay money to get the 'coolest items' and get access to private rooms and awesome games. You do not NEED to pay money to play Club Penguin, and most of the rarest items in the book are non-member items. Members often tease Non-Members because the Members have 'cooler' clothes, and often say they are richer. The truth can be that the Non-Members are richer because they never have to spend a dime on anything for Club Penguin, in and out of game, but this often leads to flames and protests. Speaking of protests, during March of 2011, over 700 penguins on a handful of servers protested for the 'Old CP back', meaning that there was barely any Membership needed. Then Members backed up for there people, as a big war began, similarly known as the Membership War. This is slightly ongoing.

And an Item?

An Item is a clothing item or Player Card item for the population of Club Penguin. Items can be found in a catalog or free at a party, as said above. Items include:
  • Head Items (Like hats and hair)
  • Face Items (Like glasses, face paint, masks, etc.)
  • Neck Items (Such as capes, beards, bags, etc.)
  • Body Itmes (Such as shirts or otherwise)
  • Hand Items (Such as wristbands, instruments, etc.)
  • Feet Items (Shoes obviously)
  • Pins (Little 2D items that go on the left hand corner of your player card. A minimum of one is hidden every two weeks)
  • Flags (Almost the same as Pins, but you have to buy them, and they are in the catalog. They are for all players, previously only for members)
  • Backgrounds (Artwork for your Player Card, and sometimes pictures of mascots)
What is a Player Card?

A Player Card is the card of a Penguin. It shows their pins, backgrounds, and the items you see in game. You can also use a player card to edit yourself, but nobody else. On other people's player cards, you can determine if they are a member or not, seeing a "Member" badge on the very top left, usually above the pin. You can also use anothers player card to:
  • Befriend them by clicking the smiley face
  • Send them a postcard by clicking on the mail button
  • Find them wherever they may be on Club Penguin, if they are your friend
  • Look at their Stampbook
  • Ignore the player by clicking on the skull
  • Report the player by clicking on the small M badge
What is a Stamp Book?

A Stamp Book is a book that stores a players Stamps or Pins publicly. A stamp is something you earn by playing games, meeting people, going places, or just doing activities

What is a mascot?

A mascot is a character in Club Penguin. They are often found in game and give out backgrounds for proof that they have met you. You also get a stamp for meeting them, but if you have met them before the stampbooks arrived, you will not get any mascot stamp. Mascots include:
  • Rockhopper the Pirate
  • Gary the Gadget Guy
  • Aunt Arctic the Reporter
  • Rookie the Secret Agent
  • Cadence the DJ
  • The Penguin Band
And more!

Actions

You don't just waddle around and meet new friends, you can do much more. Like waving, sitting, and dancing. You can do that by clicking on the penguin on your Chat Bar, but anyhow, you can dance by pressing D on your keyboard, and wave by pressing W on your keyboard. To sit, use the arrow keys. You can also throw snowballs by pressing T and then aiming. To do emotes, you CAN press the emote box on your Chat Bar, but to get exclusive emotes, do this: Press and Hold E while testing out every number and letter on your keyboard. The most common exclusive emote is E + T, which makes a fart sound while showing a music note.

What's a Chat Bar?

What's a Chat Bar!? Are you kidding me? The Chat Bar is the blue thing below you. There you can do actions, edit your player, go to a help desk, and otherwise.

What are Secret Agents?

Before time began, there was, the cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it has the power to create worlds, and fill them, with life. That is how our race was born. Wait, wrong topic. Secret Agents existed until 2009. You had to be 30 days or older to become a secret agent. You would fill out a form and if you got all the right answers you got to be a secret agent and earn your Spy Phone. Then when Elite Penguin Force came along, you could now be an agent whenever you wanted. You can still play the Missions from the Secret Agent archives and achieve medals, but now its more specifically based on EPF.

What are Tour Guides?

Before time began, there was, the cube. AGAIN, wrong topic! You have to be 45 days or older to qualify to become a tour guide. You fill out a form, and if you pass, you are granted the Tour Guide hat, which is a bolo hat with a ? on it. It's quite exciting to be a tour guide.

What's the cube?

Ok, right topic. Before time began, there was, the cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it has the power to create worlds, and fill them with life. That is how our race was born. For a time we lived in harmony. Peace, and just. Until we were betrayed by Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, and the cube was lost to the stars. We scattered across the galaxy, searching every star, ever world, until fate brought us to an unknown planet called, Earth.........TRANSFORMERS!!! But we were already too late. Yeah randomness.

What's the map?

The map is a tool to go to distant planets, ah, uh rooms in Club Penguin.

What are rooms?

Areas in club penguin, often decorated for parties and filled with free items or games. To see a list of rooms, click here.

What's a Login screen?

A login screen is when you click "Play Now" on Club Penguin's home page. You will see an advertisement, blah blah blah, then you put in your Username and Password. If you are not yet signed up for Club Penguin, click this link, press "Play Now" and at the bottom right, click "Create a New Penguin".

What's a Newspaper?

A newspaper is the source of news in Club Penguin: "THE CLUB PENGUIN TIMES." It used to come out every Thursday, in which it still does, but for most countries, it comes out on fridays, due to the day differences. Yeah Club Penguin is global friendly now.

What are postcards?

Postcards are little messages that you send to penguins and buddies, often recruiting a penguin to a place or a group.

Well, we walked you through the basics. The Advanced Guides are coming soon. Hope you enjoyed!
